VPS Hosting — Root Access Virtual Servers

What a VPS is

A virtual private server is a virtual machine on a physical host, with its own operating system, its own resources, and root access. Unlike shared hosting, you control the whole software stack: the web server, the database, the language runtimes, and anything else you install. Unlike a dedicated server, the physical hardware is shared with other virtual machines — your resources are allocated to your VPS, and the exact allocation and contention behaviour are [TO BE CONFIRMED].

Who it is for

  • Developers hosting a custom application or API.
  • Sites that have outgrown shared hosting.
  • Agencies hosting client sites that need isolation or a custom stack.
  • Staging and test environments that mirror production.
  • Small SaaS products, bots, and background services.
  • Anyone who needs root access and a Linux (or Windows, where offered) environment they control.

Realistic use cases

  • Custom web app: Node.js, Python, Go or PHP application with its own database.
  • API server: a backend for a mobile app or a partner integration.
  • Growing WordPress/WooCommerce site: a store whose traffic or plugin load no longer fits shared hosting.
  • Game, chat or utility server: small community services within the plan’s resources and the acceptable-use policy.
  • Development and staging: an environment matching production for testing before release.

A VPS is not a good fit if you want hosting fully managed for you and never want to touch a terminal — shared or WordPress hosting fits that better — or if you need a whole physical machine, in which case see Dedicated Hosting.

Included vs excluded

Included: the virtual machine with the resources in the table, root access, the chosen operating system image, network connectivity, and support for the host, network and provisioning.

Excluded unless stated: control panel licence (cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin — priced separately, [PRICE — TO BE CONFIRMED BY OWNER]), managed services, application installation and debugging, your application’s code and data, and backups unless the plan includes them. Backup inclusion and retention are [RESOURCE — TO BE CONFIRMED].

Management boundaries

VPS management options are [TO BE CONFIRMED] — whether each plan is managed, unmanaged, or offered both ways, and what “managed” covers (OS patching, panel, security hardening, monitoring). Until that is confirmed, assume an unmanaged VPS: you are responsible for the operating system, security updates, firewall, backups and everything installed on it. We are responsible for the host hardware, the network and the virtualisation layer.

Setup process

  1. Choose a plan, operating system and any panel licence.
  2. Pay — provisioning starts after payment is confirmed. Provisioning time is [TO BE CONFIRMED].
  3. Receive root credentials through the panel or by email [TO BE CONFIRMED].
  4. Log in, update the OS, set up a firewall, install your stack, and configure backups.
  5. Point your domain at the server IP and test before going live.

Migration conditions

Moving a site to a VPS means moving files, databases and configuration, and usually re-setting the stack on the new machine. We can advise on scope; hands-on migration assistance, its limits and any fee are [PRICE — TO BE CONFIRMED BY OWNER]. Sites that depend on shared-hosting-specific features may need changes to run on a VPS. DNS is switched only after the new server is tested.

Upgrade path

VPS — Standard → VPS — Performance → VDS hosting → dedicated hosting. Resources can usually be scaled up without rebuilding the server; scaling conditions and any downtime are [TO BE CONFIRMED]. Downgrades are possible where the smaller plan can hold your data.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get root access?
Yes. A VPS comes with root access and full control of its software.

Which operating systems are available?
The OS list is [RESOURCE — TO BE CONFIRMED]. Common Linux distributions are expected; Windows availability and licensing are [TO BE CONFIRMED].

Is the VPS managed or unmanaged?
Management options are [TO BE CONFIRMED]. Check this page again once confirmed, and do not assume management is included.

Can I install a control panel?
Yes, if the plan’s resources support it. Panel licences (cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin) are priced separately unless the plan says otherwise — [PRICE — TO BE CONFIRMED BY OWNER].

Are backups included?
Backup inclusion, frequency and retention are [RESOURCE — TO BE CONFIRMED]. Keep your own off-server backups regardless.

What happens if I outgrow the VPS?
Scale to a larger VPS, move to a VDS for dedicated resources, or move to a dedicated server. The upgrade path is above.
